12/18/2015&ndashTerre Haute, Ind. – Terre Haute Regional Hospital was named an “in the process” Level II Trauma Center on Friday, December 18, by the Indiana EMS Commission.

With the approval, Terre Haute Regional Hospital becomes the first hospital in the ISDH District Seven region and the first in the state named as “in the process” Level II Trauma Center. According to the American College of Surgeons, a facility earns the title of “designated trauma center” when it meets the requirements of government or other authorized entities.

“Having a trauma center in Terre Haute is important not only to our community, but also to the entire Wabash Valley. In a rural area such as ours, the next closest trauma centers are located in Indianapolis or Champaign, Illinois. Having a trauma center locally means we won’t lose the “golden hour” to save someone's life when injured. I'm pleased Terre Haute Regional is able to provide the life-saving care to injured patients,” says Christine Toevs, MD, trauma medical director at Terre Haute Regional Hospital.
