Emergency Services

At Terre Haute Regional Hospital, our Emergency Department continues our promise to be here when you need us most. We consider it a privilege as well as a responsibility to make sure that we provide excellent service, every patient, every time - which we know may sometimes begin unexpectedly in the emergency room. This information is provided to help you know what to expect during your Emergency visit.

Regional Hospital was the first hospital to become an Accredited Chest Pain Center in the Wabash Valley, which means we are prepared for heart emergencies. The Society of Chest Pain Centers accreditation is an important distinction among Chest Pain Centers because it means the center and its staff are totally prepared to care for patients with heart attack symptoms. Successful treatment of heart attacks is time dependent and must be initiated rapidly. When a patient arrives at Regional Hospital with a suspected heart attack, they are within quick reach of the specialized staff and equipment needed to diagnose and treat emergency heart conditions. We are acutely prepared for heart emergencies--preparation that saves lives and quality of life.

Our Emergency Department is staffed 24-hours-a-day with a team of health care professionals experienced in caring for patients with a variety of medical and surgical emergencies. The physicians in the Emergency Department are part of a group of experienced emergency physicians with ECI Physicians. They enjoy exceptional rapport with Regional Hospital medical staff and referring physicians. The nursing staff is handpicked, specially trained and permanently assigned to the department. Emergency Department nursing staff are credentialed with Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS), and Emergency Nurse Pediatric Certification (ENCP)/Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS).

The staff is trained to provide a full range of medical care for patients of all ages with all types of medical problems, from minor illnesses and injuries to life-threatening emergencies. The doctors and nurses are supported by a full complement of ancillary services including air medical services transport.

The Emergency Department offers bedside registration and discharge, keeping patients from longer waits before and after treatment.
